Infini | 900

Infini

One of the most important places in Infini is Hope's Haven.

v2206_3.gif

Hope somewhat considers the Haven as his home. It's the place where he chooses to reside within Infinity. As he landed not too far from it when he got stuck into Infinity, it was a convenient location to set up camp. As it turns out, that was a fortunate turn of events since this Haven is everything Hope needs. It's a calm environment where he can relax and restore his energy. Hope also uses it to store everything he has; the vehicle Technology gave him, the mailbox that Time uses to contact him and his shelter. Beyond the limits of the Haven lies a vast forest and a mountain where Peace performs certain rituals.

For the more adventurous, here is a peek at Infini's gameplay development.

This level section is a work in progress, but it's possible to notice a new mechanic that's introduced.

Barnaqueverse: Memory

Barnaqueverse: Memory

Memory is an elephant who drinks information from the world. She has only one purpose: to archive the experiences of conscious beings. Every being coming to her planet leaves an impact in the water. When it rains, Memory drinks ponds and puddles to encode in herself the information contained in the water. She is rather serene and relaxed because she feels at peace with her mission. Her usefulness is clear and she pities Hope, which, as a more abstract concept, suffers as he struggles to remain himself.

At the end of her life, saturated with information, she gives birth to her successor and dies. The new Memory buries its mother's body to store the information it contains and erects a gravestone. It's this cycle that produces Memory's cemetery, the place in which Infini's main menu is situated.

Infini | Barnaqueverse : Croche

Infini

Infini takes place in a world where concepts are personified. These concepts have come to life through Nulle Part (see this post for more info) and the player takes control of Hope who's imprisoned in Infinity and is trying to escape.

Espoir.jpg

The story in the game is presented on a timeline in a fragmented and deconstructed way. The timeline begins with the incident that got Hope stuck in Infinity in the first place and every event is presented in terms of how many days have passed since.

Because of Infinity's nature, Hope ends up spending an unimaginable amount of time trying to escape. Hope, being what he is, can never give up this quest no matter how long he's been stuck and how desperate his situation looks.

During his adventures, Hope will interact with many other concepts such as Poetry, Time, Technology, Fatality, War, Doubt, Memory and Peace.

The plot of course revolves around "Will Hope ever find a way to escape Infinity?", but also and more importantly "How do you even escape Infinity?". To us, that last question is a lot more intriguing and substantially trickier to answer. This is something that Infini explores thoroughly.

In future posts, we'll talk about other characters in Infini.

Barnaqueverse : Croche

Let's take a moment to talk about a trilogy of games that we did a while ago (all freely available for PC on our itch.io page).

The trilogy is about a recurring character in our games called Croche. It includes the following titles : 'Candy Croche: Candy Bending: Saga', 'Fashion Croche' and 'Vaisselle Croche'.

Croche, in all his glory.

Croche, in all his glory.

Croche was a relatively normal guy (as can be observed in 'Vaisselle Croche') until the day that something peculiar happened to him and changed him forever. He then became... a little more "special". Special as in trying to make music by plugging candy together. (And then getting really angry when it doesn't work)

Who's that man?

Who's that man?

If Croche was just a weird character that only appeared in the Croche trilogy, we probably wouldn't talk about him here. But as it turns out, he appears in different forms in a couple of other games. You could say in a way that Croche has an alter ego. That alter ego can be seen in Nulle Part and will be the main character of our next game following Infini. Even in Infini, his influence can be felt. A lot of mystery surrounds this character, for now at least...

Infini | Barnaqueverse : The Perturbulences

Infini

Following our latest publication, let's take a closer look at Infini's gameplay.
It's a platformer without platforms where you take control of Hope who is free falling infinitely. The player can not land or jump on anything and he can't touch any wall or obstacle.
When the character crosses one side of the screen, he comes back from the other. The player must guide Hope's fall accordingly to reach the goal in each level to pass to the next, as can be observed here:

Level1.gif

The game will include 10 level sections, each with its own theme and a different combination of 2 active mechanics. In the first section, the player can slow down or accelerate his fall. In the 2nd level section, the player can slow down and zoom out the camera, as we can see here:

Level2.gif

This mechanics brings a whole new dimension to the levels we can develop and each new section aims to renew the player's experience. We will go into more details about the other mechanics we discover in Infini in a future post.

Barnaqueverse : The Perturbulences

In our universe, the perturbulences are a particular phenomenon that took place on Earth where, for a certain period of time, reality lost all logic and strange phenomena were observed everywhere.
The phenomena could take the form of talking animals, patches of immaterial colors suspended in the air or people transformed in abstract creatures.

Example of an abstract creature:

Although the perturbulences are not present in Infini, their impact plays a very important role in several games that we have done and will certainly have one in the next game we will release after Infini.
Although the explanation of the source of the perturbulences exists, it is not clearly explained in our games to date. The game that deals the most with this phenomenon is Nullepart.

Infini is a game we've been working on for some time (How much? Hard to say). It's a platform game without platforms (huh?) In which we embody Hope which is stuck in Infinity. We're aiming to release it around 2018/Q2, and development is going well. In future posts, we'll go into detail about mechanics, the development of the game and the narrative.

Barnaqueverse : Nulle part

Barnaqueverse is the name we give to the global narrative universe that connects all Barnaque games. Nulle Part is the key location of all the Barnaqueverse. It is the place where ideas are born. When an idea or a concept begins to exist independently from a single person, in the sense that it exists in the network of people who share it, it materializes in Nulle Part and becomes a conscious entity.
As an example, the game named Nulle Part is the story of the birth of an idea and the death of another.
Nulle Part is a vast landscape of widely empty colorless hills, mountains and plateaus in which the Ideas interact.
This space, still largely unoccupied and dark, illustrates the youth of ideas and conscience.
